Echoes From Forgotten Hearts EP Is Released

It isn’t just a coincidence that Vision Éternel’s new extended play “Echoes From Forgotten Hearts” is released on Valentine’s Day. It’s sort of a tradition for the band to release albums on this holiday (whenever possible), and this goes back to the first EP, “Seul Dans L’obsession“, in 2007. Vision Éternel’s fifth extended play comes as a complete surprise to just about everyone. Everyone except maybe Alexandre Julien who was never certain if Vision Éternel would continue to release music after 2012’s EP “The Last Great Torch Song“, released through Abridged Pause Recordings.

This is yet another concept album, as has become the norm for any of Alexandre Julien’s releases. But “Echoes From Forgotten Hearts” was nearly never released. Back in the summer of 2014, Vision Éternel was approached by Bradley James Palko, formerly of Dedicated Records, to compose the soundtrack to a short film. When Alexandre sent in the finished soundtrack in October of 2014, he found out that Palko, the so-called producer/writer/director of the film, had shadily flaked out of his pipe dream and abandoned the project, instead using the funds for a personal vacation in northern Europe. Unwilling to let his music go unheard, Alexandre went back to Mortified Studios to re-record, re-arrange and re-conceptualize the soundtrack into a Vision Éternel EP. The new extended play was ready just a few days before Christmas and frequent graphic collaborator Jeremy Roux was asked to design the artwork.

Echoes From Forgotten Hearts” is a brilliant “comeback” (for all of whom had given up hope of hearing new Vision Éternel material), reminiscent of Clint Mansell’s “Moon” soundtrack. This film was pointed out by Alexandre Julien as a major influence during the composing and recording of “Echoes From Forgotten Hearts“. And indeed, this extended play would have served as an amazing soundtrack to a film of that genre.
